ECON: Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs\nCommittee presidents: Jacquie Linden (LUX)\, Paul O’Brien (LUX) \nCryptocurrency and especially the use of blockchain technologies as a means of decentralized public transaction ledgers are currently booming with many saying it could decrease institutional weaknesses and increase financial inclusion in developing countries. Facebook’s newly announced\ncryptocurrency Libra has faced many critics\, and tech giants such as Amazon and Google are yet to follow in their footsteps. Which precautions can be taken by the EU in order to benefit from Blockchain technology without harming the European economy? How will these decentralised platforms be able to offer the same services and infrastructure without a central database? \nExperts: Wlim Stalmans (Founder of the Blockchain Academy)\, Felix Weis (Freelance Developer and Bitcoi Traveller) \n2. AFET/DROI:Committee on Foreign Affairs/ Human Rights\nCommittee presidents: Janne Nys (BEL)\, Evan Duval (LUX) \nWith gender equality being a fundamental human right\, there should be equal ease of access to resources and opportunities to provide for a peaceful\, prosperous and sustainable world. However\, citizens with other sexual orientations and gender identities are still not treated equally\nas trafficking and violence\, hostility at the workplace\, and underrepresentation in decision making still prevail. How can these issues be addressed within the European Union and should the latter intervene when human rights are violated on both a national and international level? \nExpert: Skerdilajda Zamaj (Associate Professor at the University of Luxembourg) \n3. AFET/SEDE: COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS/ON SECURITY AND DEFENSE\nCommittee presidents: Fiona Morrison (GER)\, Peter Tumulty (IRE) \nThe question of an EU army and EU foreign policy: should the EU play an important and intervening role in international conflicts only after the cessation of hostilities\, or should the EU assume a prominent role in situations whilst violence continues\, not leaving that task to individual member states or other international players? \nExperts: Dhiraj Sabharwal (Deputy Director at Tageblatt) \n4. JURY: Committee on Legal Affairs\nCommittee presidents: Nathali Machool (NED)\, Cédric Gunsing (B) \nA new directive on copyright in the digital single market has recently been passed\, which consists\, among other elements\, of the controversial Draft Article 11\, known as the “link tax”\, and Draft Article 15. It requires social media companies to take more responsibility for copyrighted material\nbeing illegally shared on their platforms. Many critics fear the introduction of these articles will lead to the implementation of strict upload filters\, which may limit and ultimately censor the Internet. Which measures could be taken to counter a restraint in social media use? \nExpert: Iris Depoulain (Commissioner for Copyright at the Ministry of Economy Luxembourg) \n5. ITRE: COMMITTEE ON INDUSTRY\, RESEARCH AND ENERGY\nCommittee presidents: Elena Morselli (ITA)\, Tom Hegarty (UK) \nConcerned by the impact of climate change and the total conversion to renewable energy not being an immediate solution\, which measures can be taken by the EU member states? How can EU countries secure sustainable energy supplies and independence from foreign fossil fuel imports? Which policies and reforms should the EU pursue to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions whilst trying to maintain global competitiveness? \nExpert: Claude Turmes (Minister for Energy and Spacial Planning Luxembourg) \nAbout Luxembourg City\nLuxembourg is a small European country bordering with Belgium\, France and Germany. Its capital of the same name is a centre for European institutions such as the European Court of Justice\, the European Commission\, and the European Investment Bank. Luxembourg is also well-known for its qualified financial services. The Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE)\, with its sustainability-focused Luxembourg Green Exchange (LGX)\, has global leadership in green bond insurance and green finance development. In addition\, Luxembourg has a very international community with 3 official languages and more than half of the 614.000 citizens originate from various other countries. Luxembourg is multicultural and it is also the only sovereign Grand Duchy in the world with its Grand Duke Henri. \nFurthermore\, Luxembourg will soon offer free public transport and give both its residents and visitors the opportunity to explore its exceptionally preserved fortifications and old quarters which were declared a UNESCOWorld Heritage Site in 1994. To give you a first impression of this small but fascinating European country\, enjoy these beautiful images of Luxembourg City. \nParticipants\nBelgiumDenmarkFranceGermanyIrelandItalyLuxembourgNorwaySpainThe NetherlandsUnited KingdomPersons\nPresidents\nMathilde Alves Araujo (LUX)\nMathilde Alves Araujo \nMy name is Mathilde Alves and it is my great pleasure to be one of the presidents of the fourth WEMEP session. The city is located in the german federal state Rhineland-Palatinate and was established as a Roman military post around 8 B.C. \nIts name originates in the Latin (ad) cōnfluentēs\, meaning “(at the) confluence” of the two rivers. The actual confluence is today known as the “German Corner” \nAbout Bonn\nThe federal city Bonn is\, like Koblenz\, situated at the border of the river Rhine. It is in the federal state North-Rhine Westphalia. With about 325 thousand inhabitants it is one of the 20 largest cities in Germany. Bonn’s dated history goes back until 40 B.C to 20 B.C where Teutons started to build settlements. \nBonn became between 13 and 9 B.C. a roman military post with the name “Bonna”. In 1989 the city celebrated its 2000th anniversary. \nAfter the second world war\, Bonn became the provisional capital of Germany. This temporary arrangement lasted 41 years. Then\, in 1990\, after the reunion of the BRD and DDR and the “Einigungsvertrag”\, Berlin became the capital. But still\, Bonn stayed an important political city as many federal ministries have her main- or at least second seat in the city. Bonn is the main-seat for two important international company’s (Telekom and Deutsche Post) and a UN-city. It is the only German city with the title “federal city” which is a reminder and tribute at the city’s past as capital. \nBonn is also known as the native town of Ludwig van Beethoven\, a famous musician and composer. \nParticipants\nBelgiumFranceGermanyLuxembourgThe NetherlandsUnited KingdomGuest delegations\nDenmarkItalyNorwayRussian FederationPersons\nPresidents\nEmil Schaefer\nEmil Schaefer \nDear Delegates\, Committee Presidents\, Teachers\, and Guests\, Welcome on our WeMEP III Koblenz/Bonn 2019 website. My name is Emil Schaefer and I will be part of the Presidency for this years’ conference\, which I am already really much looking forward to. The MEP project is a simulation of a Conference week of the real European Parliament\, mainly organized by and entirely for the European Youth. Young and enthusiastic europeans have the chance to meet and discuss pressing political issues\, but also to broaden their own horizon in terms of cultural and personal perspectives – In short\, MEP lets young people experience what the European Union means\, and exactly this is\, what makes it so valuable. For this years conference\, we have chosen five pressing and controversial topics\, including domestic policy\, environmental and scientific policy as well as issues on security and the structure of the European Union. The cool thing here is\, that most of these issues have not been as prominent amongst the previous MEPs which guarantees that we will face fresh\, creative ideas – another key aspect of MEP. Following the idea of giving Europe’s Youth a sense of what the EU means\, we have decided to have this conference in two cities. Now\, it is not Strasbourg and Brussels\, but Koblenz and Bonn will do their part – I am sure. For many MEP alumni\, this project has had a sustainable impact on their future lives and careers. Irrespectively of whether they actually choose to pursue a political career or not\, MEP teaches us young europeans transferable\, invaluable skills and attitudes. The eagerness to raise one’s voice\, stand up for what is important to oneself\, intercultural understanding and cooperation\, the persistence to keep going to find the best possible solution\, even after hours of Committee meeting\, or the ability to speak in front of large crowds\, just to name a few ones. For me personally MEP has done the same. I finished High School and the confrontation with opposing and controversial opinions that I have first experienced at MEP has motivated me to go abroad and work in a totally different cultural environment\, as well as to study a Politics related course. I wish us a great MEP conference\, and you\, dear delegates and Committee Presidents\, that this MEP conference may have the same impact on you\, as previous ones had on me. \nInês\nInês \nMy name is Inês and I am an 18-year-old Portuguese living in Luxembourg.\nI have been a delegate three times\, I am going to be a committee president on the next national MEP session in Luxembourg\, and finishing my journey with being a part of the presidency leading the WEMEP in Koblenz.\nI am not only interested in politics but also fascinated by science. That is why I see French as my second language.\nIn school I have arts and French as major subjects and I also do the French baccalaureat. I am currently in the 12th grade which means for me that this is the last school year of my life!\nUntil today\, I participated in 5 MEPs of which my WEMEP as delegate last year was by far the best of all! I am 18 years old and I live in the south of The Netherlands.\nThe first time I joint MEP I was a student in Secundairy Education.\nIt was then when I had the opportunity to join a regional\, national and international MEP-conference. I also participated as a female President.\nThose experiences where very special to me; I learned al lot then.\nNow I am a first-year student in a bachelor’s programme\, training to become primary school teacher.\nLearning from each other’s views and taking part in a debate are interesting learning objectives for young students too!\nI am very happy with the opportunity to join the International MEP-conference in Bonn and looking forward to meet you all.Linh Poth (AFET/SEDE)\nLinh Poth \nHey\, my name is Linh Poth and I’m one of the CPs this MEP session. I’m in my last year of high school\, where I study Greek and Latin. I’m interested in culture\, politics and current affairs\, but also in art\, literature and movies.\nI obviously enjoy MEP a lot and I think it is very educational.\nThe reason why I chose ENVI as my committee\, is because the topic strongly sparks my interest. I think that it is very important to be conscious of the current climate situation in Europe and the rest of our world. It is a quite a task for our generation to face all the problems accompanying climate change. That’s why I’m excited to see your solutions and ideas around this topic!\nI’m very much looking forward to meet you! \nVictoria Schein (ENVI)\nVictoria Schein \nHi! My name is Victoria Schein and I am 17 years old. I study geophysics and engineering in England at Imperial College London but I am originally from France. As a first-year undergraduate student\, I am also part of my university rowing team. In 2017\, I participated in the MEP in Maastricht as a delegate which was a rewarding and enriching experience. This year\, I will be a CP for the ENVI committee. Climate change is real and requires immediate and ambitious action to prevent the worst effects it can have on people and biosphere in general all over the world. It is time for our generation to set clear targets for a safer Earth as we are facing the direct consequences of anthropogenic activities on the environment. \nJulia Rozenberg (ITRE)\nJulia Rozenberg \nMy nameʼs Julia Rozenberg and Iʼm 18 years old. Iʼm from Rotterdam\, the Netherlands. Currently\, Iʼm in my final year of high school and next year I will start my studies at the Faculty of Technology\, Policy and Management located at the Delft University of Technology. I will be the chairperson for the committee on industry\, research and energy together with Oscar. Iʼve participated in quite a few Model European Parliament projects already and I canʼt seem to get enough of them. I hope everyone will enjoy this project as much as I have in the past! \nOscar Ramsden (ITRE)\nHi\, my name´s Oscar Ramsden\, I´m 17 years of age and I will be working with the committee on Industry\, research and energy. I was born in Luxembourg and have lived there all my  life\, in a small rural village in the countryside. My parents on the other hand both grew up in the U.K. and English is my mother tongue. I am currently in my second to last year of my secondary school career.  In my spare time \, I like to play football and a spot of cricket as well as taking part in MEP sessions of course. I am thoroughly looking forward to meeting you all at this year´s session and I wish everybody good luck with their preparation until then. \nPartners\nHilda GymnasiumEichendorff GymnasiumMax-von-Laue GymnasiumFriedrich-Ebert-Gymnasium

Davidlaan\, 2500 Lier\n\nGeneral Assembly\n\nFormer Jesuit Church\, Berlaarsestraat 12\, 2500 Lier\n\nOrganisation\nThis is Paul Van Turenhout. He is the organizer of this WEMEP session. From the start of the first conference\, in November 2016\, Paul was there to coordinate all the things that had to be done so that the participants can enjoy a carefree WEMEP session this year. It has been a busy year for Paul\, so now he is glad the session can finally start. \nHere you have Emma Hanegraef. During this session she will be the head of presidency. MEP is a project for and with adolescents\, so why not by them? Therefore Paul switched Emma in to help him with the organisation of the session. And she didn’t only do the things Paul asked her to. The youth is full of creative ideas and good advices\, and Emma is a perfect example of that. \nAnother important person is Sofie De Wachter. Normally she teaches geography in the Sint-Gummaruscollege\, but since the summer she has been busy to put every one of the delegates in one of 63 guest houses. This job is always a big puzzle\, but she did it. \nAlso important are Erasmus+\, who wasn’t only a sponsor for the project\, but also made the exchange of the participants to Belgium possible\, the province of Antwerp\, the city of Lier and the Sint-Gummaruscollege\, because without them the session would have been practically impossible to realize. And last but not least are the 63 guest families\, who exist of students of the Sint-Gummaruscollege\, old students\, teachers\, the people of the school basketball team\, citizens of Lier and politicans. \nDownloads\n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Order By:\n Publish Date\n Title\n Update Date\n Downloads\n Views\n \n \n \n \n Order:\n Descending\n Ascending\n \n \n \n Apply Filter\n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n Programme - WEMEP Lier 2018 | 454.71 KB\n \n Download
