About Koblenz
Koblenz is a german city situated on both the rivers Rhine and Moselle. The city is located in the german federal state Rhineland-Palatinate and was established as a Roman military post around 8 B.C.
Its name originates in the Latin (ad) cōnfluentēs, meaning “(at the) confluence” of the two rivers. The actual confluence is today known as the “German Corner”
About Bonn
The federal city Bonn is, like Koblenz, situated at the border of the river Rhine. It is in the federal state North-Rhine Westphalia. With about 325 thousand inhabitants it is one of the 20 largest cities in Germany. Bonn’s dated history goes back until 40 B.C to 20 B.C where Teutons started to build settlements.
Bonn became between 13 and 9 B.C. a roman military post with the name “Bonna”. In 1989 the city celebrated its 2000th anniversary.
After the second world war, Bonn became the provisional capital of Germany. This temporary arrangement lasted 41 years. Then, in 1990, after the reunion of the BRD and DDR and the “Einigungsvertrag”, Berlin became the capital. But still, Bonn stayed an important political city as many federal ministries have her main- or at least second seat in the city. Bonn is the main-seat for two important international company’s (Telekom and Deutsche Post) and a UN-city. It is the only German city with the title “federal city” which is a reminder and tribute at the city’s past as capital.
Bonn is also known as the native town of Ludwig van Beethoven, a famous musician and composer.

Dear Delegates, Committee Presidents, Teachers, and Guests, Welcome on our WeMEP III Koblenz/Bonn 2019 website. My name is Emil Schaefer and I will be part of the Presidency for this years’ conference, which I am already really much looking forward to. The MEP project is a simulation of a Conference week of the real European Parliament, mainly organized by and entirely for the European Youth. Young and enthusiastic europeans have the chance to meet and discuss pressing political issues, but also to broaden their own horizon in terms of cultural and personal perspectives – In short, MEP lets young people experience what the European Union means, and exactly this is, what makes it so valuable. For this years conference, we have chosen five pressing and controversial topics, including domestic policy, environmental and scientific policy as well as issues on security and the structure of the European Union. The cool thing here is, that most of these issues have not been as prominent amongst the previous MEPs which guarantees that we will face fresh, creative ideas – another key aspect of MEP. Following the idea of giving Europe’s Youth a sense of what the EU means, we have decided to have this conference in two cities. Now, it is not Strasbourg and Brussels, but Koblenz and Bonn will do their part – I am sure. For many MEP alumni, this project has had a sustainable impact on their future lives and careers. Irrespectively of whether they actually choose to pursue a political career or not, MEP teaches us young europeans transferable, invaluable skills and attitudes. The eagerness to raise one’s voice, stand up for what is important to oneself, intercultural understanding and cooperation, the persistence to keep going to find the best possible solution, even after hours of Committee meeting, or the ability to speak in front of large crowds, just to name a few ones. For me personally MEP has done the same. I finished High School and the confrontation with opposing and controversial opinions that I have first experienced at MEP has motivated me to go abroad and work in a totally different cultural environment, as well as to study a Politics related course. I wish us a great MEP conference, and you, dear delegates and Committee Presidents, that this MEP conference may have the same impact on you, as previous ones had on me.

My name is Inês and I am an 18-year-old Portuguese living in Luxembourg.
I have been a delegate three times, I am going to be a committee president on the next national MEP session in Luxembourg, and finishing my journey with being a part of the presidency leading the WEMEP in Koblenz.
I am not only interested in politics but also fascinated by science. Hence I have decided to choose a scientific section at school and to study chemistry or physics afterwards.
In my free time, I concentrate on activities stimulating creativity, like playing the piano, which I do for 12 years now. I also try to find time to continue my art projects and especially to go climbing.
To conclude, although I have my flaws, I am a very open person and I am looking forward to participating to this WEMEP.

Welcome everybody!
My name is Lasse Lutgen and I will be one of the presidents of the WE-MEP III. I live in Koblenz in Germany and I am 18 years old.
Having been delegate and committee president on a regional and national level several times as well as president here in Koblenz, I will do my best to contribute to the success of this international MEP.
Since I was on a high school exchange year in Texas in 2017/18, I am even more excited to meet so many new people my age from all over Europe.
I am really looking forward to an awesome WE-MEP and to exciting debates and conversations!
With this in mind, I hope we will have an amazing week here in Koblenz and Bonn, or how you’d say in Texas: see y’all!

Next year I’m going to graduate from high school and planning to work and travel to a few countries, especially Asian ones, afterwards.

My name is Daniël, I’m sixteen years old and I’m from the Netherlands. When I graduate from middle school, I plan to study Law and Economics. Hi everyone! My name is Marie and I am 17 years old. I am part of the German delegation and I live in Bonn.
Interesting to know about me is that I also lived in Brussels until I was 8 years old. That is why I see French as my second language.
In school I have arts and French as major subjects and I also do the French baccalaureat. I am currently in the 12th grade which means for me that this is the last school year of my life!
Until today, I participated in 5 MEPs of which my WEMEP as delegate last year was by far the best of all! This is why I am already looking forward to be the CP for Employment this year.
my name is Sanne van Kessel. I am 18 years old and I live in the south of The Netherlands.
The first time I joint MEP I was a student in Secundairy Education.
It was then when I had the opportunity to join a regional, national and international MEP-conference. I also participated as a female President.
Those experiences where very special to me; I learned al lot then.
Now I am a first-year student in a bachelor’s programme, training to become primary school teacher.
Learning from each other’s views and taking part in a debate are interesting learning objectives for young students too!

Hi, I’m Sarolta Szatmári and I am one of the CPs in the AFET/SEDE committee.
I live in Luxembourg but I have Hungarian and Russian origines.
I dance and do a lot of yoga in my free time. I am thinking about studying architecture later but I am not really sure so maybe I will take a gap year and do some volunteering. I have participated in three other MEPs as a delegate before so I am excited to be a CP this time.

My name is Ynys and I’m very pleased to be your Committee President this Conference together with Victoria.
I’m 18 years old and I live in Belgium. I’m in my last year of high school, where I study Greek and Latin. I’m interested in culture, politics and current affairs, but also in art, literature and movies.
I obviously enjoy MEP a lot and I think it is very educational.
The reason why I chose ENVI as my committee, is because the topic strongly sparks my interest. I think that it is very important to be conscious of the current climate situation in Europe and the rest of our world. It is a quite a task for our generation to face all the problems accompanying climate change. That’s why I’m excited to see your solutions and ideas around this topic!

Hi! My name is Victoria Schein and I am 17 years old. I study geophysics and engineering in England at Imperial College London but I am originally from France. As a first-year undergraduate student, I am also part of my university rowing team. In 2017, I participated in the MEP in Maastricht as a delegate which was a rewarding and enriching experience. This year, I will be a CP for the ENVI committee. Climate change is real and requires immediate and ambitious action to prevent the worst effects it can have on people and biosphere in general all over the world. It is time for our generation to set clear targets for a safer Earth as we are facing the direct consequences of anthropogenic activities on the environment.

My nameʼs Julia Rozenberg and Iʼm 18 years old. Iʼm from Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Currently, Iʼm in my final year of high school and next year I will start my studies at the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management located at the Delft University of Technology. I will be the chairperson for the committee on industry, research and energy together with Oscar. Iʼve participated in quite a few Model European Parliament projects already and I canʼt seem to get enough of them. I hope everyone will enjoy this project as much as I have in the past!
Hi, my name´s Oscar Ramsden, I´m 17 years of age and I will be working with the committee on Industry, research and energy. I was born in Luxembourg and have lived there all my life, in a small rural village in the countryside. My parents on the other hand both grew up in the U.K. and English is my mother tongue. I am currently in my second to last year of my secondary school career. In my spare time , I like to play football and a spot of cricket as well as taking part in MEP sessions of course. I am thoroughly looking forward to meeting you all at this year´s session and I wish everybody good luck with their preparation until then.
